Genesis

It started in late 2022 under a different name — Where To Next — because the question kept coming up and had no decent source. Coliving operators describe their spaces in the language of lifestyle photography. Booking sites describe them in the language of nightly rates. Neither will simply tell you which places exist and where.

So the site does that instead: a plain list of places known to exist, each one pointed at its own website. Whatever happens after that is between you and them.

Features

• 114 coliving places across 21 countries, grouped by continent and then by country — from the obvious clusters in Spain, Portugal, the USA and Germany down to the countries holding a single entry.
• Country pages with a point of view, grouped into regions and cities. Portugal has more coliving spaces per capita than anywhere else in Europe, which is a side-effect of cheap-ish rent, a nomad visa, and a lot of waves.
• Search from the front page by country or city, and a filter on each country page for narrowing down once you’re there.
• The practical line under each place: which city, roughly how many rooms, whether there’s a community manager, and when the entry was last checked.
• Every place links out to the operator’s own site. Nothing is booked here and there is nothing to book.
• No accounts, no reviews, no rankings, no featured placements. Places are listed alphabetically within their region, which is the least interesting order and the only honest one.
• Closed spaces leave the list, not the record. Sixteen entries are currently marked inactive and dropped from the listings rather than deleted outright.

Who it’s for

Anyone choosing a coliving space who wants to see the field before they start reading marketing copy — remote workers, freelancers, and people booking a month somewhere for reasons beyond the view. It assumes you already know what coliving is; the sites that explain it are elsewhere.

Where it stands

Active, and the oldest thing here. The directory works and gets added to; the current effort is depth rather than breadth — filling in detail on places already listed, adding more ways in, and getting the data to refresh itself so it stops going stale the moment attention drifts elsewhere.
