Two months of summer in Dresden, mostly spent working
I went back to Dresden for the summer with grand motorcycle plans and ended up doing what I always do: work.
Early June 2022
Two months of summer in Saxony. Which, statistically, might have been all of Saxony’s summer.
I’d been to Dresden the autumn before, so I thought I’d try the summer version. Same city, different lighting. It was my second visit, and Dresden still managed to make me feel like a regular within 48 hours. A German city that friendly is slightly suspicious, but I let it slide.
After Lisbon had re-taught me that sharing a flat with other humans doesn’t have to end in quiet resentment, I pushed my luck and found a shared flat in the Leipziger Vorstadt. My favourite district. Excellent coffee, overpriced vintage furniture and a mild sense of gentrification guilt, all within five minutes.
For work I wanted a coworking space within walking distance, because I am, at my core, lazy. Quartier 22 in the Neustadt did the job. I booked a month and extended for the whole stay. The plan surrendered on arrival, as plans do.
The other plan was motorcycle day trips through the Saxon countryside. What actually happened was work. Lots of it. I did make it to a few childhood places — Posterstein, Bautzen and Pirna, where some of my relatives lived for a while.
So, nothing spectacular. Just a workaholic doing things in another city.
